Have faith, Neville. Almost exactly a year ago, the "Inclusion through
Music 2007" conference at the Royal College of Music in London, laid down
significant accessibility foundations with a number of developers and
manufacturers of music products.

Speaking as a Dancing Dots dealer here in the U.K., I can tell you that the
last 10 years or so has been a major uphill struggle. However this year we
have seen a significant increase in the number of students going to college
and university to study music. Many of these are students developed their
talents at school with the aid of GOODFEEL, Caketalking and Sibelius
Speaking.

It is also apparent that an increasing number of school districts over here
are making decisions to purchase district licenses based on whether or not
the product can be accessed by their blind and partially sighted pupils.
That has got a growing number of companies feeling the proverbial pinch and
looking at the accessible side of their products. No names, no pack drill,
but I do know some members of this list who are assisting companies develop
accessible products.

So hang in there. I'm confident you will see some exciting developments in
the next year.

George Bell.

Roland has never been friendly to the blind.

I here ya. On the other hand, I note that in order to control the gains on
this control surface, you have to do that from a software dialog box. Not
sure if that will be accessible either. If this has been developed by
Roland, and they have implemented this in a similar way to V-Vocal then
accessibility to put it mildly could be well, interesting.

It's possible, but it seems like it is a glorified control surface and audio
interface for sonar. The only mention of displays refer to a seven segment
led for now time and a 2 line 13 character display for markers and whatnot,
but it runs off good old sonar. If I had $4000, I'd wait until cT for sonar
8 came out and take a chance as this seems like it would work well, but then
again, I don't, so I'm waiting anyway. <grin>

Phil replied: I wouldn't count on it. Neither Tim Burgess or others
interested in accessibility have taken a look at it yet and so are not in a
position to comment. My advice, don't spend any money until some of us have
had a chance to try it out. For all we know, this thing could have
wraparound menus, lots of multipurpose menus etc.

The below link takes you to the press release for the cakewalk/roland
v-studio 700, the control surface, audio interface and software that
cakewalk is touting s the next big solution for musicians. I read up on this
thing and I am floored. And since it works around sonar 8 producer, bundles
rapture with sonar 8's dimension pro and even includes a Roland fantom
equivalent synth onboard, would guess that this will be quite accessible.
The price tag, at $4000 hurts, but I wonder if this would convince me to
upgrade from my fw1884 since the hardware and software are integrated.
Anyway, here's the info as per the press release.
