Hi Nevile, hope all is well, what you can do to solve this easily, is to invest in phome pads which are about 6 inches by six inches square. There is a company depending on this size of your room which cells a in expensive kit which will solve all echo problems.
You can simpley put some velcro strips on your wall and put these phomes against the wall, and the kit also comes with baffles to block any ceeling echo reflections.
If I'm not mistaken the kit was about $700 here in montreal. Hope this helps. -------------------------------------------------- From: "Dave Hillebrandt" <dave@xxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, January 23, 2010 8:14 AM To: <ddots-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [ddots-l] Re: Question about recording vocals
I really think that nine inches is pretty good location, especially if not a good pop filter. I forget if the 1000 has different paterns or not. It is a slippery slope about room acoustics but I find with my nt2a that room doesn't play too much of a part if the typical tardioid patern. Do think four to five inches is too close though as could almost hear down your throat that close with my mic. ----- Original Message ----- From: "neville" <neville@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <ddots-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, January 22, 2010 1:23 PM Subject: [ddots-l] Re: Question about recording vocalsI want to thank you all for responding to my question about recording vocals. I have a Road NT 1000 and I'm not sure but I think this is fairlyrecent. I think that I might be too close, but then again is 4 to 5 inchestoo close? If I move too far away I get the ambiance of the room which I don't want because it's harder to add affects after. I would prefer to beable to place the vocal in a room of my choosing rather than have my reverb mixed with the sound from my record space. Did someone say that I should beabout nine to ten inches away? IN that case I should look for a different place to record my vocals. Thanks again for your ideas. Of course your AKG is a very nice mic for vocals.Just picked up a Rode NT2A which I love and it has padding in case ofsomething being way too loud but have a feeling its mostly being a bit too close unless using a dynamic mic of some kind like an SM57 or SM58. For me, good condensor is only way to go and there are some decent ones that aren't too expensive. Been real happy with Studio Project C1 and the Rode NT1A isvery affordable for real good sound and quite sensitive. I found this out the hard way, as I have an AKG414, and these microphones are very sensitive. I'm naturally an alto, but I could sometimes go into the mezzo Soprano and the soprano ranges, the soprano range is the one that causes my voice to distort, as I project the high notes, and sometimes I sit too close to the microphone, which in turn causes distortion. -----Original Message----- From: ddots-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ddots-l-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of neville Sent: Thursday, January 21, 2010 10:14 AM To: ddots-l@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [ddots-l] Question about recording vocals I'm wondering if anyone can give me some ideas about this. I have a verydynamic voice. What I mean is that my dynamic range is very wide Which iswhy I don't get why my vocals always seam to have a slitely saturated sound with or with out compression. Maybe the best way to describe it is that they always sound a little distorted. At first I thought that maybe I was recording with too much compression on my pre/amp. So then I made sure that the compressor was very light and I still had the same problem. Then Idecided to turn off the compressor all together, but still no luck. Anyonehave suggestions for me? I have run out of things to try. Oh and I always make sure that my input meters don't go below -6.0. May the peace of God which passes all understanding gard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.
