I really think that nine inches is pretty good location, especially if not a
good pop filter. I forget if the 1000 has different paterns or not. It is a
slippery slope about room acoustics but I find with my nt2a that room
doesn't play too much of a part if the typical tardioid patern. Do think
four to five inches is too close though as could almost hear down your
throat that close with my mic.
