There is an accessible software sequencer called QWS (quick windows sequencer)that allows for note entry from the PC keyboard. I used it a long time ago so I can't remember exactly how to do it but it was easy.

The software was no where near as advanced as Sonar, it doesn't have any audio features, but its free and was written with accessibility in mind. You could try using this and then port the stuff into sonar afterwards.

Heare's the link

Hi Bill!!

I have placed comments within your message.

Cakewalk used to ship a program called (I *think*) virtual Keyboard with Cakewalk Pro Audio. It ran as a separate application to which you had
to ALT+TAB to use and the ALT+TAB back to Cakewalk. Not elegant but it worked.

You are referring to the Virtual Piano which, hasn't shipped since, Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.

If there is a method of doing this, > then we have a complete step recording system with no MIDI controller or keyboard required.

See that's the problem, there currently isn't a method of doing this, via the keyboard. I think sighted users can use the piano roll view to do this with the mouse. However, as you know, the piano roll view, isn't accessible for us.

There was a thread a little
while ago about using the QWERTY keyboard as a note input device - does
anybody have the details, please?

As far as I know, SONAR's Step Record feature only permits you to set up the
rhythmic value before you play a note or notes on your MIDI keyboard. For
example, q for quarter, h for half note, etc. On the other hand, you can
enter both rhythms and pitches using the Lime notation editor that comes
with GOODFEEL or Lime Aloud. You can also do so using Sibelius with
Sibelius Speaking. See www.DancingDots.com for more information.

P. S. Cakewalk used to ship a program called (I *think*) Virtual Keyboard
with Cakewalk Pro Audio. It ran as a separate application to which you had
to ALT+TAB to use and the ALT+TAB backk to Cakewalk. Not elegant but it
worked.

If there is a method of doing this,
then
we have a complete step recording system with no MIDI controller or
keyboard
required.
