Correct. Although I would add to this statement the JSonar grabs mor information from the control surface than CT does.

Tim,

Okay, that makes a lot more sense now. In other words the design of the
device drivers determine which Sonar on-screen features we can get access
to. CT and JSonar each have their own drivers that are different. They each
make use of a majority of Sonar's features, but each has capabilities that
the other does not.

Hi,

In this context you can think of a control surface as a device driver -
something that feeds data to and from a piece of hardware. The Jaws and
Jsonar control surface drivers act as virtual hardware that exploit the fact that Sonar sends useful data to control surfaces - it's a very reliable way of gaining this kind of stuff (far more so than trying to interpret it from
the video display using traditional screen reading techniques).

Best wishes.

Phil,

Sorry if this sounds trivial, but can you please define what we're talking
about with the term "control surface"? I always thought this was a piece of
hardware.

CT does use a control surface however, the JSonar guys, wrote there
own. That's why you have some features available in JSonar that are not
available in CT such as stereo metering, RMS metres and clips in a list in
the clips pane. Of course, the reverse is true. Meaning that there are
some things that you can access in CT that can't be accessed in JSonar but
in this instance, this is nothing to do with the control surface.

I thought ct has control surface? I mean when ct installs,
you need to activate its control surface. I'm confused.

110% positive. CT has never been able to read RMS
metres and most likely won't be able to until they write their own control
surface. JSonar can because they get them through the JSonar control
surface. Yet another reason for David to write a control surface for CT or, perhaps talk Bryan Smart into coding the surface for him or if David wants quicker results, talk to Vic and the JSonar team about purchasing a licence from them for the JSonar surface and use it in CT. Also noticed that in the
latest JSonar 8 release, you can access clips in a list. Again this is
possible as they are getting clip access through the JSonar control surface.
Hmm, I wonder how long it will take the JSonar guys to get clip editing
going from the keyboard?

Afraid not. You will need to use
alternative scripts for that, smile.

Maybe I missed, but is there
way to read rms meter with ct?
