I recently had to change my main (home) account that I've had for several years. It didn't get much spam (on that account) then all of the sudden it was LOADED with it. And some of it, the subject lines alone, made me worry about my son even *opening* my mail program to get *his* mail! And the worst thing was that a lot of it showed as coming *from* me *to* me (yes, I know it was spoofed, but it still pissed me off). Hard to blacklist crap like that when it says it's from you cause any mail I sent to myself or I sent to a list hit the Norton's folder. My business address gets a ton of spam, but not sure what I can really do about that. I did download a trial of "SpamBully" the other day and I'm really impressed with it. http://www.spambully.com/ I have 4 days left of the 2 week trial, and I'm seriously thinking of purchasing it. It's about $30.00 USD. It allows you to not only blacklist someone, but you can bounce the mail back to them, you can bounce it *and* punish them, or you can just simply tell the program to learn it as spam. Personally, I enjoy the punishment part, but that's just me. :) It has taken my daily dose of spam down by better than half, and, trust me, that is A LOT! Come to think of it, I didn't get my 1.5 million either! Hmmm. I've been using local email since the eighties - starting with UNIX at AT&T. If I can POP Gmail I'll give that a try. I would set up another account on my web server, but in a matter of weeks the spammers would be sending me all that stuff about enhancing my performance, or helping some poor African diplomat who was cheated out of his inheritance. I can tell you, this stuff doesn't work, and I really think the diplomat's daughter was lying about something. I never did get my share of the 1.5 million dollars. I won't even get into enhancement products, or lonely housewives. You can set it to delete on exit... somewhere. But you know how I feel about webmail anyway, so if I'm likin' Gmail, it must be okay... for something.. :) Tee Read my blog! http://mom2ty.blogdrive.com/ ----- Original Message ----- From: Hal To: computertalkshop@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, February 18, 2005 7:03 AM Subject: [CTS] Re: free web mail account Thanks, but... I have a Gmail account. I just set it up a few days ago. Do you like it? It appears that they save everything. I think you'll be happy with it. Even though I use Linux and have good filtering, I still have to look at this nasty sh** everyday, just in case I get something legit. The Problem: First, I don't like web mail, but this is better than screwing up my domain account, or my real email account. Right now I'm using Myway, and its not terrible, but doesn't handle HTML very well. Personally, I don't like HTML formated email, but most people are using it, so, when in Rome... Could I get some recomendations for a free web mail account that I could check out? Yahoo, Gmail, and Myway, I don't like, although I might consider Gmail later. Postmark is good, but way slow.
