Newsletter No: 27 Date: 22 April 2008 School Closure due to Industrial Action Due to industrial action, the school will be closed on Thursday 24 April. You must make alternative arrangements for the care of your child on this day. The decision to close has not been taken lightly after seeking all possible ways of reducing the disruption to pupils learning; however, as I am unable to guarantee the safety, welfare and education for pupils, I have no alternative but to close. Normal school operations will resume on Friday 25 April. Year 6 Parents Meeting & Industrial Action Whilst this meeting is possible during the industrial action, I have decided to postpone the Year 6 Residential Visit Meeting for Parents to a more suitable date. I will notify you of the revised date in a future newsletter. Care Club & School Closure Due to the school closure, Broad Oak Services will not be operating the Care Club for breakfast and after-school clubs. Vacancy for Mid-day Lunchtime Supervisor (Welfare Assistant) We have a vacancy in our lunchtime supervisory team and are seeking to appoint someone with good communications who builds effective relationships with children. Further information is available in an application pack from the school office or from the school website from next week. You are welcome to have an informal chat about the vacancy and the role with Mrs Johnson, our welfare team leader, who is available during mornings in the school office. Parent Governor Appointment The Governing Body is very pleased to welcome Mrs Joanna Clarkson as a parent governor. As only one nomination was received there will be no requirement for a ballot. Environmental Sticker Competition The Environmental Team are running a Sticker Competition. These stickers are to promote positive ?environmental messages? through the school e.g. saving energy, recycling etc. Entries should be provided on A6 size paper and put in the box in the Library. Closing date will be Friday, 2 May. Winning stickers will then be printed and displayed in school. Team Points Last week?s winners - Sycamore Friends of Broad Oak BAG 2 SCHOOL ? MONDAY, 28 APRIL 2008 9.00 ? 11.15am Don?t throw away your old winter clothes or summer clothes that no longer fit ? recycle them and let the school benefit. ?Bag 2 School? is an organisation that specialises in recycling unwanted items such as ladies?, men?s and children?s clothing, bedding, curtains, soft toys, belts and handbags. (It is not a registered charity but is on the National Association of PTA?s Recommended Suppliers List.) The company pay us 20p per kg ? so the more we collect, the greater the reward. Your children will have brought home a bag which can be filled with unwanted clothing etc. and brought in to school ON MONDAY, 28 APRIL (Further bags can be obtained from school or black bin bags used.) Please help us help your children PLEASE DO NOT BRING BAGS TO SCHOOL BEFORE THIS DATE AS WE HAVE NO STORAGE FACILITIES.
