Here is more detailed info on the upcoming field trips:

08/23 - Roan Mountain. Larry McDaniel is unable to lead the trip, but Don
Holt will
be taking his place. Meet at the Visitor Center (Paddle Wheel)
at Roan
Mountain State Park at 8:00 a.m. Drive to Carver's Gap and walk
over
Round Bald to see Jamie Donaldson's goat project. This should
include
interesting birds, fabulous scenery and great leadership with
Don. This will
involve several miles of hiking on hilly terrain.

09/06 - Douglas Lake/ Rankin Bottoms. Leaders: Mike Sledjeski and John
Moyle.
We will travel by pontoon boat from Swann's Marina at Swann's
Bridge, the I-
40 lake crossing. Only ten members can fit on the boat and five
have
already made reservations. The fee runs about $15.00/person for
rental and
gas for 10 people. There is also a $300 damage deposit (covered
by me),
unless there is damage, then the fee will be divided among us
(very
unlikely). We will meet at 12:30 p.m. at the dock and leave for
home at
6:30 p.m. (cooler)...bring food and drink. Last year at this
date 2 Peregrine
Falcons, Black-bellied and American Golden Plovers, Ruddy
Turnstones,
Baird's and Buff-breasted Sandpipers and ten other shorebird
species were
seen. If you wish to reserve a place, contact me (John Moyle)
at 423-349-
6440 or jpmoyle18@xxxxxxx by 09/01/08. I will try to set up
car pooling if
             you wish.

                                             09/20 Bristol Bird Club will
assist in the count. Try
                                                       to be there by 0900
and spend the day. Bring
                                                       food and water,
sunscreen, bins, scope,
                                                       folding chair/stool,
etc.

09/27 - Bays Mountain for Beginners. Leader: John Moyle. A great
