Hello, Logging APIs can be so much more though. To use the java.util.logging package implementation of logging as a example: Each logger can be registered with different handlers, the different loggers can be configured to have different levels, I think even the different handlers can be configured to accept different log level messages.
This means that the different parts of BrailleBlaster need not be logging to the same locations, they need not be logging at the same level, etc.
Obviously the more complicated the logging configuration iis the more difficult it is to store it in a settings file and have options for controlling it. Therefore it may be worth using the standard logging API configuration file (I think for java.util.logging this is a properties file).

There is a debug configuration setting. Right now the only valyes are yes and no, with no being the default. It could be expanded to accept the various log levels. A logging calback would then have to be added. The default would remain no. In this case only fatal errors would be printed, such as errors in parsing or missing tables or files. The present setup may be good for developoers, but it certainly is not good for users. John On Tue, Jul 15, 2014 at 07:12:48AM -0400, Keith Creasy wrote:Yes, I agree. Michael, can we fix this? I don't want to use the latest liblouisutdml to translate anytything of really interesting length, such as the books I get from Bookshare. For that reason, I would like to find a way to pipe it for now. I have tried the command line: java -jar brailleblaster.jar translate %bPath%%inputFile% > brailleblst.log but this does nothing1 I imagine the two input and output parameters are making the piping irrelevant to the brailleblaster.jar call. Any ideas? That is all logging from LibLouisUTDML and is telling you what actions and styles are being applied. We really do need to turn down the default logging though because that's a bit much most of the time. I wonder if you can help me to understand what is being displayed on the command.cmd window when I run brailleblaster in batch mode underWindows 7?Here is a typical output screen: Administrator: brailleBlaster process Assistant 7ie keybo>d71 x copies :at y type 6! _+beep.txt_: file4 Finish end_style Begin start_style Finish start_style Begin insert_translation Begin end_style Begin insert_translation ,3trol-;,z w 5d ! 8copy0 process4 Finish end_style Begin start_style Finish start_style Begin insert_translation Begin end_style Begin insert_translation 7,3trol-;,g wd probably n "w if y type x 9 say ,notepad7 Finish end_style Begin start_style Finish start_style Begin end_style Begin insert_translation Finish end_style --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- ----- It looks like some sort of trace! I clear the screen after the brailleBlaster program has finished so that my batch menu appears clearly. However, the output above appears once the program is running and so I wonder if I can pipe it to a file, if it is important to retain it, or if I can suppress this output by a setting in brailleBlaster?
