I know what you mean about people learning in various modalities. I am fortunate. I can learn things such as spelling as a visual learner and learn other things as an auditory learner. I used tapes (reel to reel) extensively during courses including for statistics, matrix algebra and calculus courses. I strongly vote against recordings for statistics and math courses though I got through my economics major using audio learning.
