Thanks Ann, you said it more fluently and diplomatically than I ever would.

Nancy, I appologize if I offended you. No offense intended.

Hi all,

Bob, although you are right in that wav files or MP3 files can contain viruses I think Nancy Lynn, the assistant for the Books And Beyond show on Accessible World, is not deliberately sending a virus to the Bookshare list.

Nancy, it would help suspicious netizens like me and Bob, if you had identified yourself in your email, told us what the file was about and so on. I knew who you were, but I'm afraid that if I didn't, my response to your message would have been the same as Bob's.

<smiling> It is always a good idea when attaching a file, any file at all etext, wav,mp3, xls or whatever, to clearly identify the attachment, identify yourself by name and by organization, (names can be spoofed), say why you are sending this file and so on. Many lists do not allow attachments. That is why you'd be much safer giving a URL for the location of a sound file rather than trying to attach one.

These voice-mail outfits are OK, but unless you really must use voicemail because of some disability or other, best to send etext and a URL for a sound file. Many people use VoiceMail on networks such as SAMN, but sending such a thing to a regular email distribution list is not a good idea, especially if it is a wav file.

An hour worth of wav file, depending on bit rate and sampling rate can be larger than 250MB. Ten minutes would be about 42MB alone, so you may want to choose a different media to send out announcements.

No thanks, that's a good way to get a bad virus.

I'm sending from my Philmore account. Thanks.

This is an email link to a copy of a voicemail message sent from Philmore
