I think it actually depends on how the splitter is made. If the jacks on the 
splitter are lighter, then what you say could be 
true. In my case, the splitter had very heavy jacks at the end of its wires. 
The one I have without wires is much lighter, 
and so in my experience, it causes less stress on the jack of the audio device.
