[bookcourier] Fast forward and reverse not working

Dear Listers,
My Book Courier is about eighteen months old and is running firmware
version 01.04.01. I think it is a marvellous tool and would be completely
happy with it if only I could get the fast forward and reverse increments to
work properly. For over a year now, I have lost this functionality
entirely. I can only fast forward and reverse a phrase at a time,
regardless of what i have this feature set to in the settings list. This is
true in both MP3 and text files and is driving me insane. I have sent it
back to the dealer I purchased it from twice, and on both occasions it has
worked normally for less than a week and then reverted to its
non-cooperational mode.
I am reluctant to keep sending it back to the dealer, as this leaves me
without the unit for a week or more, and, frankly, a Book Courier with
limited functionality is better than no Book Courier at all. But I would
really appreciate some advice on how to resolve this problem myself.
