Thanks for the scanning tips, y'all. No I'm not a Southerner, but was borned in Virginia. And y'all is so folksy, no? <g> I had another question for y'all --- What do any of you folks do to scan things that require larger scanning surface than the typical scanner? My Epson 1660 Perfection has a 12 x 8.75 glass surface. I have numerous things I wish to scan, like books that 12 by 12 inches. Right now I a book I badly want to read. It is out of print and I purchased it through a used book seller. Its page surface is 9 by 12 inches. I could actually do it easily if it weren't for the fact that the margins are pretty close to the binding side of each page and it will lop off characters or words. Some of you mention using the Kurzweil? Do they still have that machine with the glass right to the edge? I always wished I could have had one of those. But even then I still am hoping to find a way to scan the 12 by 12 and other larger size printed pages. Thanks. Openbook isn't so hot for handling photos. That said, I have found that darkening the page in the contrast settings sometimes helps. It can also help bunches and bunches if you turn on color scanning, turn on the despeckle setting, and set the DPI to 400. The DPI setting seems to be the most important of these. Please be aware that this will slow down your scans a bit.
