I want to totally agree with Allison's instructions below, with one minor exception. She says to put ^b in the find box and ^m in the replace box for changing section breaks to page breaks. I'd like to suggest that you change the ^m to the following string ^p^m^p wich will protect your page numbers and chapter headings while converting your section breaks to page breaks.
I learned of this nifty little add-on from Mayrie, while I was still a very newby validator. (See Mayrie, your patience was not in vain, I did learn something.)

Hi Mary Anne,It's best to change the section breaks into page breaks. In Word, I do this by going to find and replace and typing in ^b in the find box and ^m in thereplace with box. ^m is the symbol for a page break. Let me know if that doesn't quite make sense. *smile*. Also, you mention that you put page numbers at the bottom of a page with ablank line above and below them. This is exactly right. I did want to let you know that it's not necessary for you to move page numbers to the bottoms ofpages if they are at the top. I imagine that would be rathertime-consuming. You may leave them at the top if you like with a blank linebefore and after. As to font, there isn't a standard set in the volunteer manual. I usually change to 12 point and times Roman, but that's just a preference of mine, not a rule. So if you like Ariel I think that's fine. Thanks so much for all your work on Bookshare books! I understand. I've been removing headings and putting page numbers at bottom of pages with an empty line above and below them. I'venoticed that when I save in RTF, each page is separated by a section breakin MS word, as opposed to a hard page break or soft page break. Should I leave the section breaks alone?. I have also changed the font to something like Arial 12 and page size to letter .. Is that right? I'm reading thebooks for myself anyway and this is what I would do to make reading easierfor me. But my page breaks do stay where they fall in the book itself. -- Mary Anne Lynskey To unsubscribe from this list send a blank Email to bksvol-discuss-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx put the word 'unsubscribe' by itself in the subject line.
