Hi Madeleine,
If you have been watching this list, you’ve probably seen that a few of us
usually greet newcomers to this list anyway. To me, it’s a really spontaneous
thing for us and we, just, well, just do it! I don’t know about the folks who
complain about too many posts, but a couple of ‘hello and welcome’ posts here
doesn’t seem too cluttery to me. It doesn’t happen all the time anyway. Why
not just leave it the way it is already?

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Portential greeters

Hi volunteers,

At one point we discussed having people greet new volunteers who have recently
joined the list. I haven’t had very many people email me directly expressing
interest so I thought I’d post here. For anyone interested in greeting others,
Alisa and I were thinking that it could just be as simple as posting to the
list once or twice a week with a friendly note to welcome anyone new.

It could be as simple as: “Hi to anyone new to this discussion list! Welcome!
Please feel free to introduce yourself and don’t hesitate to ask questions.”

While we want to ensure that everyone feels welcome, we don’t want to clog up
the list with chatty posts. We kindly request that if anyone is feeling
especially friendly, please make sure no one else has already sent a greeting
recently (in the last few days) before posting. We shall see how this works,
and I’d greatly appreciate any feedback, whether positive or negative!

Thanks and have a great rest of the day!

Best,

Madeleine Linares
