Hi Cindy,
When I posted to Madeleine, you were one of the folks I had in mind. We
just do it anyway so why not just keep doing it?

Well, I know that I and quite a few others do post a welcome to newcomers who
introduce themselves on the list. If you think it's desirable to post a welcome
to anyone anyone who has joined but hasn't introduced him/herslf and thus that
we don't know about, I'm game.

  Hi volunteers,

At one point we discussed having people greet new volunteers who have
recently joined the list. I haven’t had very many people email me directly
expressing interest so I thought I’d post here. For anyone interested in
greeting others, Alisa and I were thinking that it could just be as simple as
posting to the list once or twice a week with a friendly note to welcome anyone
new.

It could be as simple as: “Hi to anyone new to this discussion list! Welcome!
Please feel free to introduce yourself and don’t hesitate to ask questions.”

While we want to ensure that everyone feels welcome, we don’t want to clog up
the list with chatty posts. We kindly request that if anyone is feeling
especially friendly, please make sure no one else has already sent a greeting
recently (in the last few days) before posting. We shall see how this works,
and I’d greatly appreciate any feedback, whether positive or negative!

Thanks and have a great rest of the day!

  Best,
