Well, finding out about the existence of books is easy. Just browse almost any list of books anywhere. Open Library is a fantastic resource for that. The problem is actually acquiring them. That can be a problem. If it is from your local library you may as well just browse their holdings. If it is a matter of buying them then on line booksellers will have just about any book you will want. In fact, I once read a post on some message board -- I think it might have been an eBay message board -- from a rare book collector who said that the Internet had killed her interest in book collecting because she used to spend years tracking down a collectible book and all the searching and tracking down leads and such was the fun of it and when she finally found and acquired the book she was looking for she felt so rewarded for her efforts. Now all she has to do is to google the book and then just order it. Voila! No more fun in book collecting. So my point is that it is real easy to find books that you might want to scan. The question is then, can you afford it.

Oh, I forgot one of the biggest sources of ideas I get for scanning, and that is bibliographies in books I've already scanned.

I would begin to scan also, but like Amber I have no idea how to
find books that I can scan. I might be able to use our library or
even go to the library here, but I think we may be getting to the
point where volunteers are just not going to be needed any longer.

As a volunteer who was not volunteering for a while, I have to say
it is hard to know what to scan and what not to for me. There are
so many pieces of information, I have no idea where to go to look
    for what.

So many of my scans have been replaced, that I'm feeling pretty
discouraged about it all. I am reluctant to put up books for
proofing, and then I have no idea were to go for the information I
    need.

It's almost like I need a road map to decide what to scan.
