Hi, Gerald! The Windows key with Up or Down arrow will move you between lines as well. Like most things in Windows, I guess there are several ways to get from Point A to Point B! <smile>

I recently discovered a way to move through the Bookshare lists using JAWS
which seems to work well for skimming titles. It doesn't work for the
results of the new Simple Search page, but it works well with the results of
the Advanced Search page and the New Books list, as well as the pages for
individual authors.

Once you've located the table that contains the list of books using T, use
Ctrl-Down and Ctrl-Up to move from one book entry to another. JAWS will
read until it comes to a blank line. Once you've heard all you need to
hear, though, you can move to the next entry and begin listening to that
entry. This allows you to skim the titles on the New Books list as quickly
as you like using a single keystroke to move to the next book.

The reason this does not work for the Simple Search page is because there
isn't a blank line between each book in the list.

Ctrl-Down and Ctrl-Up are the shortcut keys in Word for moving between
paragraphs. I wasn't paying attention the other day and used Ctrl-Down on
Bookshare thinking I was in the Word document I had open. It turns out that
these keys work similarly when using them in Explorer. Instead of reading
to the end of a paragraph like in Word, though, JAWS reads to the next blank
line in Explorer.

Hi Cindy,
Yes, the find works very well with screen readers--it's one of my favorite
commands to use. But it isn't so useful when you don't know exactly what
you're looking for and you're just trying to browse through a list of books
to see what's available. There are ways to set the pages up that would allow
us to move by title through the list of books, and that would be a big time
saver. The one thing that is really hard for blind computer users is that
one can't really skim a web-page. If you know what you're looking for you
can use find, and there are other ways to move around pages, but sometimes
there's nothing for it but to read the page straight through until you find
what you're looking for. Some of the most irritating pages because of their
clutter are Amazon and E-bay. Both of these sites are accessible and work
pretty well, but getting through all the junk to what you want can be a real
pain. Of course, I realize that sighted people also have to fight with
cluttered pages.
