As for me, I do have an interest in when a book was added, so I use both list 
view and table view, but if the date was placed on the list view where it 
seems to belong I would have no use for the table view at all and I fail to see 
the point of it, especially as the default view.

I suppose it's to provide a briefer look at a larger number of books?

I agree that listview should be the default view at least until someone 
chooses table view.
