The Calloway County CBC was conducted on January 4, 2013. We tallied 87 species including the Say's Phoebe found by Aviva Yasgur and Mary Schmidt. It was a cool sunny day with light wind, perfect day to be out birding. The back bays were frozen in the morning and the lake was high so we missed Forster's Tern and Least Sandpiper but they were seen on count week. Duck and Gull numbers seem about normal but only one American White Pelican was found. At first we thought it might be an injured bird but it flew without trouble when we got close. A high count of 31 Bald Eagles was recorded. Thank you to the participants for another fun day in the field.
