[birdky] Calloway County CBC

On December 28th 6 participants conducted the Calloway County Christmas bird
Count. The final tally for the day was 83 species and 6485 individuals. We
had a few big holes and some unexpected finds.
Ducks were disappointing with only 7 species reported. Eagles were around in
good numbers with 6 adult and 1 immature. Our biggest miss was Red-winged
Blackbird. There are always large flocks of them in Calloway County but
fewer participants left a portion of the count circle uncovered.
The earlier reported Merlin, 9 Least Sandpipers, 5 Dunlin, 14 Wilson's snipe
were all seen on the Blood River mud flats. Other interesting birds for the
count were 55 Snow Geese, 1-Barn Owl, 22 Red-headed Woodpeckers, 26 American
Pipits and 4 Eurasian Collared Doves.
Thanks to all who participated.
