How does that work? I had heard something similar and tried to get out of 
paying it but was told in no uncertain terms that it was compulsory. 

It's not so much that I object to paying the money, it's more that I can't 
never understand any of their correspondence, and I don't see how you can 
decide how much you are going to earn in the future - it's just too much hassle.
