Hrmmm... I think I'd want to do a much more in-depth comparison before presenting it to a group. Partly because I suspect they know a lot more than me :-) Maybe sometime I'll be in Sydney when a Westies meeting is on, and manage to come along to say hi... but at the moment I always seem to be there during standard holiday seasons (I'm so boring!). For the record, though, I attempted to port one of our 'big mama' manuals (only 120 pages but lots of graphics - and NUMBERING! ARGH!) into WP 11, OpenOffice.org Writer 1.3 and 1.9 (pre-beta preview snapshot builds). They were originally in Word. I compared the ease of import, the ease of standard tasks (eg. creating numbered lists, tables with vertical headings), and how easily and well the finished document could be exported to tagged PDF. End result - for what we need, OpenOffice.org Writer 2.0-pre-beta (bugs and all) was far more suited than either Word or WP. It's more stable than Word with our documents and does everything we need - with a few added bonuses. And it's free, but that didn't enter into considerations. - Naomi > I hope Naomi's comparison of OpenOffice.org, Word and WordPerfect has > helped Margaret. Maybe ASTC should invite Naomi to present her comparison > at a meeting with a discussion of what choice was made and why. We'd love > to see you at Westies, Naomi! ************************************************** To post a message to austechwriter, send the message to austechwriter@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe to austechwriter, send a message to austechwriter-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with "subscribe" in the Subject field.
