Like many others, I haven't used Word Perfect. I went straight from
Multimate to Word.

My wife used Word Perfect extensively, and stayed with DOS until I
bought her a copy of WP 5 for Windows. I installed it for her, and
stood well back during her first experience with it. I will never
forget that experience. The WP programmers failed their users
miserably.

I recommend watching an 'out of the box' experience for anyone writing
software documentation of any kind. Watch for the way that users look
for information, look for the things that confuse them, and watch the
way that stress levels rise when documentation doesn't deliver on its
promise.

Anyway, I still haven't used Word Perfect, but it seems to be gaining
popularity as the world looks for a way to escape Microsoft. I
originally raised the topic because I thought it might be an answer to
Margaret's question about which version of Office to buy.

I hope Naomi's comparison of OpenOffice.org, Word and WordPerfect has
helped Margaret. Maybe ASTC should invite Naomi to present her
comparison at a meeting with a discussion of what choice was made and
why. We'd love to see you at Westies, Naomi!
