Well (Nigel Dawes),

An "an" will usually be used rather than an "a" where the next word is
pronounced starting with a hard, consonant based sound.

For example: if you pronounce hotel as "oh-tell" rather than as "hoh-tell=
"
then it's an hotel, not a hotel.

Depends if youse was taught proper at skule, but.

Pretentious, moi?

Cheers,

Michael

Dear AuzTechies
=20
Can you please explain to me why I so often see "an" precede a word
beginning with H?
=20
When I went to school, only words commencing with a vowel were preceded b=
y
"an".
=20
Has anyone else experienced this annoyance?
=20
Please enlighten me!
=20
Thanks and Regards
Nigel
