AIUI the failure had less to do with the temperature as such than with
the pressure of the gas produced by the decomposing H2O2 disrupting
the porous bead substrate.

Bill, you're saying that Pt and Pd work well in "conventional" wire
mesh catalyst assemblies? Was any preheating required, or did they
give good startup from ordinary ambient temperatures?
