Drops on Japan imho were more of a "hinting device"
aimed at the Soviet Union.
( together with keen interest in ending hostilities before the 6 month
"changing theater" deadline for the Soviets was up.)
Getting all of Japan and stopping the Soviets from trying to change
anything about it.
On Duds and fizzles:
A "fizzled misfire" ( on nonfoe territory ) pose more
problems in post accident cleaning up than a full blown
"as specced" explosion?
