Sandra,
Underlay assists the top stitches on plush fabrics the same way a bridge
allows us to cross waterways without sinking. An edgewalk underlay acts
as a support to the zig zag underlay. This builds a bridge between the
fabric and top stitches and prevents them from sinking.
