http://tinyurl.com/nlo4my What happens to dogs confiscated from a “dogfighting ring” when the villain, the owner of the property and dogs, is not a celebrity such as disgraced football player Michael Vick? Mobile County animal control officers and residents are about to find out. Even with a new $2 million shelter, boasting 10,000 square feet of space and a capacity to hold 100 animals, Mobile County Animal Shelter will be faced with the decision to euthanize as many as 30 or more adoptable dogs. In order to afford isolated cages for each of the 27 pit bull and pit bull mixes impounded from the raid on a suspected dogfighting ring in north Mobile County in early September, healthy dogs waiting adoption will lose their cages, and their chance for life. Animal experts state that dogs trained to fight are generally sequestered from other dogs, with the exception of participating in training or organized fights, and cannot tolerate the sight of another dog. Therefore, cages directly in front of the impounded fighting dogs have been emptied.
