Hi Ali,
In order not to confuse any prospective users, Wayfinder does work with 3G.
I am presently using it with Vodaphone on a Nokia N70.
Regards
Philip

Thanks Steve. I believe wayfinder would not work with 3g network.
Thank you.

Hi Ali,
Yes. However, last I looked, each route cost me less than a penny. Not only that, if you are on contract and get an unlimited GPRS plan, like T-Mobile's Web 'n Walk plan, then it won't cost you anything over the flat rate you pay for it per month, about a fiver. But I also use my phone for picking up Email, so Web 'n Walk is useful.

Thanks Steve. Does this mean that there would also be an internet charge on the bill?
Thank you.

Hi Ali,
OK, let me try to explain. The GPS receiver does absolutely nothing, except
tell the system where you are at any given moment. In other words, what
street, city, country, etc. It does nothing else. But you need a way to
calculate how to get to a different destination or place. To do this, the
Wayfinder system relies on maps of a given country, in our case, the UK, to
calculate the route on which you want to travel. It works out the best way
to get you from A to B. Most GPS software solutions have the maps
pre-loaded on a memory card, or some storage device. Instead of this,
Wayfinder uses the Internet to download information from the most current
maps available to it. So GPS tells us where we are only, and the Internet
is used to assist the software to calculate where we want to go.
Does this help?

Sunil, If GPS receives the information from the satellite, what about internet connection they are talking? I cannot get my head round on this.
Thank you.

It enables the satellites in the sky to zero in on you so they no whereabouts you are. It's that tracking info - pinpointing you at the corner of Great Portland Street and Cavandish Street for instance, that enables the system to guide you to where you want to go.

The main reason is because the data and maps for route planning are online and not stored locally off line so WayFinder goes online when you're route planning. I think syncing favourites between the phone and your mywayfinder.com account needs an internet connection too.

Hi,
I am interested in getting the above. On their website, they say I need an
internet connection enabled on my mobile, does anyone know why this is?
Thank you.
