Hi Ray,

With all the praise for Nod32 during the past couple of days, I decided to download the trial version and give it a go yesterday. I first of all uninstalled Avast which I've been using for a for a few months. As soon as I tried to use Google, after installation, I got a warning message together with an apology from Google telling me the problem was going to be fixed in the next update and I should uninstall my present version and install the beta. Well, I followed this advice and then got a message from Sygate telling me that Internet Explorer was trying to connect to the Internet. I allowed this to happen and the next time I went onto the Internet I found I had a new version of Google but not the Desktop one.

The first thing I noticed after installing Nod32 was that my computer appeared much faster and when I used it to scan my C and D drives it found two trojans one of which was called something like Download Zissor and was located in System Volume Restore.

I think I'll probably be buying Nod32 but will give it a few more days before definitely making up my mind.

Best.

Robert.

One warning to some who might have had Google desktop installed a little while. Its been said that older versions of this program didn't get on with NOD32. Presumably NOD thought it was a virus! That's been solvved now seemingly with the latest Google Desktop.

Must say I've heard a lot about NOD32 in the last few days on another couple of lists. Assuming this isn't a sort of very clever 'viral' advertizing it does sound as if its got a lot going for it in detecting viruses without the benefit of actual definitions, thus in some cases getting ahead of the game. Downside:
some programs that aren't viruses won't run. Hopefully, not many.
