the 60 and 80 refered to is the operating system name.
The phones talks works on are running on simbian 60 or simbian 80 operating
system. The 60 series are many and though the main are nokia, there are
other manufacturers too. The 80 series are the nokia communicator pda
phones such as the 9500.
There are two versions fof talks, one for each of the operating system
types.

Hi Peter,
It isn't the phone, it's the TALKS software... It runs on a range of Series
60 and 80 phones, most of them Nokia, and gives you almost total access to
all of the features of the phone. The series 60 and 80 are smart phones,
which means that they are almost a PDA and you can load additional software
onto them, for example, the Wayfinder GPS system. You load on the TALKS
software and it's a pretty damned fine screen reader for these little
beasties.
I use a Nokia 7610 and have access to the internet, to email, to TXT
messages, to my contacts, diary, to do lists etc. and can change almost all
of the settings at will, ringtones, whether or not my caller ID is sent, for
example. I also get to see who is calling me when I get an incoming call.
In short, I now have access to almost all of the features that these very
powerful little devices now have to offer. Add a bluetooth QWERTY keyboard
and you have something with almost the capabilities of things like the
braillenote or the FS equivalent offering for a fraction of the price,
although it will cost you a bit more to get the Braille bits to work that
way - but I don't know why you would bother with the Braille option unless
you were deaf-blind. In fact, it is actually able to do a lot more than
these devices in many ways...
You buy the phone on whatever contract/tariff/deal you fancy and then buy
the software from your friendly local TALKS dealer, install it and away you
go.
I got mine from Steve Nutt at Computer Room Services - give him a call, he
won't do the pressure sell but will give you straight answers and a good
service. Talk to him. I think Steve can supply the phones as well if you
want.
I would not/could not survive without TALKS.

Ggod knows. See, shows how much I know.I just hear about this fantastic
phone that is worth two hundred and fifty pounds and I wonder wwhy. It's a
nokea, I think, and it comes with software, Talx I believe. Why is it worth
that much. Does its menus speak? Can you read its text messages? Why are
folks so ready to part with two hundred and fifty pounds for a phone?
