Hi,

The problem I had was that JAWS sometimes sounded crackley through the
speakers. A tap of the CTRL key does work quickly enough.

It's OK for general everyday use and this shouldn't really put you off.
Guess I like something a bit more up market!

Hi Colin.

Of course I concur with what George has said about a desirable spec for
a PC to run JAWS. At the same time, I do recall Carol Pearson, a JAWS
user, saying she had issues with her on-board soundblaster compatible
sound card as JAWS would not shut up very promptly when pressing the
control key or whatever. Don't think she ever found where the problem
was, but it could be worth bearing in mind.

Hi Colin,

If it's purely for work (i.e. no musical entertainment required) on
board is usually adequate.

George.

Hi George,

Thanks for that, I assumed that that would be the very minimum. What
about the sound card issues? Am I correct in assuming that the 'on board
sound' in Compact type CPU's are sufficient these days?

Hi Colin,

A decent Pentium IV with at least 512MB of RAM is pretty much accepted
as minimum for XP Pro these days, especially if its networked. (Which I
assume is why you're using XP Pro.) A full Gigabyte of RAM would
however be more comfortable.

George.

Hi,

I wonder if anyone could advise me of the minimum PC specifications
deemed necessary for JAWS 6.00 Kurzweil 1000 version 8.00 XP pro to run
on?

I'm about to have an ATW assessment for a new job that I'm about to take
up in central London, and first I need to stipulate what PC my employer
sticks on my desk.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Colin Fowler
