Hi Andrew.
I've plugged it into a slot beside 2 usb sockets at the back of my computer.
It's not plugged into the old dial-up socket, which is much smaller. This
plug is about the size of a usb plug with a lock clip at one side. There is
no other socket on the computer that this plug will fit in to.
At the moment I'm using my old Freeserve usb modem so as to keep in contact
with the list. If I remove it and don't get the router to work, then I'll
really need to take the computer into the shop. Tell you what, I'll
uninstall speed-touch anyway Andrew. Having it may be preventing the router
from operating. I've also placed speed-touch in my start up menu, so
perhaps this is causing the problem also.
You said "When you plug the router into your computer, can you get a
command window up and type in the command ipconfig /all >c:\file.txt, then
send me the contents of the file.txt in the root drive?
"
Is the command window the same is the Run window? If so, then I'll give
this a go. But I may not be able to if I cannot get on-line.
Tell you what Andrew, I'll do nothing more than remove speed-touch from my
start menu and re-boot, with the router correctly fitted. If I get no luck
with that, then I'll completely uninstall speed-touch.
Best wishes.
Andy

Hi Andy,
Just something else I have thought of after reading the message. Where
exactly in the back of the machine did you put the cable into? Was it a
plug on the back of the motherboard, or another add-on card, or was it your
dialup modem you tried to plug the cable into?
It should go into an ethernet socket either located on the motherboard or in
an add-on card, but it is not the dialup modem.
Andrew.

Hi Andrew.
It's a Bellcan 812 - cannot get to the correct spelling The shop fitted the
internal wireless modem into Pauline's computer upstairs, and the Router is
sitting downstairs beside my computer, which is connected via quite a large
telephone plug into the back of my computer.
My wife's computer is working fine and she is able to go on line, but I
cannot.
The paperwork - if Pauline is reading it correctly, is telling her to
install the CD. She may of course be getting mixed up with her computers
card installation, but surely, I'd need an icon to click on to go on-line,
or would I still use the Freeserve Speed-Toouch icon?
I'm able to go on-line at the moment, because I've fitted my old Freeserve
modem again.
Any of this help Andrew?
Best wishes.
Andy

Hi,
There should be no software required - the router should work without
software.
Which router do you have anyway?
Andrew.

Hi all.
This is a long shot I'm thinking but if successful, will stop me having
to
take my computer into the shop.
I purchased a wireless card and a Router for my wife's computer
The shop fitted the card for me.
I attached the cables from my computer to the router, but just
beforehand, I
attempted to install the routers software.
The CD auto-ran and firstly started to install Adobe. I thought that
perhaps this was to enable a purchaser to read a text help file. The
auto-run facility then started searching for a file within my Office
2000
directory and advised that it could not find it. Subsequently, I could
not
install the router's software.
My brother advised that I needed to delete or rename a file within my
temp
directory but added that he was unsure which file.
Does this make sense to anyone? If so, I would be very grateful for
some
assistance, as I'd rather avoided another trip into town with my
computer.
Best wishes.
Andy
