Hi Vivien,

I will find time over the weekend to try Pearl with a multi language
dictionary, but I can report back that the Open Book software that is required
to be installed on the computer to interface with the Pearl Camera CAN be
navigated with a Braille Display. OpenBook is a Freedom product and uses the
same Braille commands as JAWS.

Regards
Glenn

Hi Glenn,

Thanks, I look forward to hearing more if you get a chance to test it
further with a dictionary. I wasn't expecting the Pearl or OpenbBook to
translate - it's printed bilingual dictionaries I'm trying to get access to,
such as those my sighted peers were accessing when I was studying languages
at university. Ultimately, I strongly feel publishers should, in this modern
age of technology and electronic formats, be taking responsibility for
making this material available in formats which can be accessed with a
Braille display and screenreader etc. That does bring me to another
question: can the interface, text which is recognised etc be navigated with
a Braille display, or only speech? This would eliminate, or at least
minimise, the need for relying on the voice switching between languages in
such materials as bilingual dictionaries, and it would then boil down to
whether the Pearl (and/or OpenBook) can actually recognise the text
accurately?

Regards
Vivien
