The Pearl for Freedom Scientific is really good at reading bound books. It
works with Open Book version 9.0 as the scanning engine on the PC and copes
very well with the dip into the centre of the spine. You have the added value
of OpenBook's ability to manipulate documents, including for those with some
vision, the capability to enhance the size, colour and presentation of the text
on the screen. It is really fast as well, 2-4 seconds for a page of text. The
camera can be used in single page or multi page mode where it senses the book
turn and automatically captures the next image.

Price is £1200 for the Pearl Camera and Openbook, £625 for the camera on its
own. The camera is portable, folds into a carry case about the size of a
portable umbrella.

Regards
Glenn

Subject: [access-uk] Zoom-Ex

Hello,

Advice please.....

The Zoom-Ex from Humanware; what is it like for scanning bound books? Are there
any alternatives, such as use of a camera with Kurzweil etc?

Speed is of essence!

Many thanks for your help in advance.

Regards,

Mike
