t-mobile tell me that they don't offer talks and that to install it could
nulllify the warrantee. I am looking further into this. as far as I am
concerned though t-mobile is the ultimate in tokenism as they have a
disability related helpline that can supply information on audio tape or in
Braille and that seems to be about it. nothing really that ordinary
ccustomer services staff couldn't arrange.

I am challenging them about their attitude to talks, but it doesn't help
much when the manufacturer is allowing itself to get behind on the
technology it supports.

Nuance is a big company and there is little excuse for the fact that all the
phones it works with are now virtually discontinued with the possible
exception of the Nokia N70 and Nokia 9300.

Cheers

At present, Kevin, Vodafone appears to be the only game in town as far
as providers and Talks are concerned. Orange tell me that they're
already giving Talks to some VI customers, but this seems to be a pretty
ad hoc arrangement. However, they say they hope to have it on a more
formalised basis in the new year. But Vodafone are actually in a
contractual agreement with Nuance.

There is obviously a deal of confusion around. I was told by the same
guy yesterday that the communicator was available. A colleague has told
me that she's been offered an N73 with Talks installed by tomorrow from
Vodafone. My understanding is that Nuance haven't yet finished the
re-write for that handset. Curiouser and curiouser.

Ian,

Having spoken to Neil Warren, the new chap looking after Talks at
Vodaphone, he assures me the 9500 is no longer available through
Vodaphone at all. The 9300 is the model they now supply with Talks. I
didn't ask about other models as it is the communicator I want to
replace my 9210i.

From Ian Macrae

Adrian and all,

I've been given to understand that a variety of handsets are available
with Talks on a variety of tariffs. These still include the N70 and the
9500. In fact I had a Talks enabled N70 from them yesterday although
admittedly it did take their press bod some time to get it from
elsewhere in the organisation.
