Quite frankly, looking for books on the Kindle itself is a pain. I
use my PC, order them there, and a few minutes later, they are on my
Kindle.

Yes, see my question to David on the accessibility of using one, but
you make an interesting point. My Campus Assistant at university got
one for Christmas. Now admittedly she is fully sighted and probably
got the latest version, not the one we would need. But if I were to
purchase the WiFi version, assuming it could do what I require, she
could help me download books that I would like to use like reading
lists etc. This, of course, all depends on whether you can use it as
a reference tool. She is an avid book reader and loves her Kindle,
and she told me that there are absolutely heaps of books out there one
can buy that are much cheaper than Apple's.

I think it's worth mentioning that the version with 3G allows you to
order and download books almost anywhere where there is 3G mobile
phone connection.
While that part of it is not accessible (sadly), if you are travelling
with a sighted person, or have sighted help to hand, it's not hard to
get someone to order for you.

The new Kindle costing £89 is not accessible, but the Kindle Keyboard,
costing £109 is if you can find it. Amazon do not have it in stock.
The 3G Kindle at £149 is exactly the same regarding accessibility as
the Kindle Keyboard but has 3g connectivity as well as wi fi.
Once the Kindle is set up, you can purchase books using your pc. You
have to have a kindle account and register it on Amazon. Then you can
purchase books and add them to your kindle yourself. Purchasing books
has to be done on the pc though unless you have sight.

Thanks Mark that is really helpful. When you say you can't order from
the Kindle, can you download books onto the Kindle if you order books
online or do you need to get someone to order all your books for you?
Also, you mention the 3G version. Is this an older version and, is
there any better version to get to enable you to order books from the
Kindle?
