Hi David ? that?s all very clear and helpful. Just one more question before
I take the plunge. Are there some original Kindles with no speech facility
on? The reason I ask is that a family member has one that is just called the
Amazon Kindle. It has the keyboard but doesn?t appear to have speech on
although it has a volume control and head phone socket etc. What I?m asking
is, do I need to buy one that specifically says Amazon Keyboard?

The new Kindle costing £89 is not accessible, but the Kindle Keyboard,
costing £109 is if you can find it. Amazon do not have it in stock. The 3G
Kindle at £149 is exactly the same regarding accessibility as the Kindle
Keyboard but has 3g connectivity as well as wi fi.
Once the Kindle is set up, you can purchase books using your pc. You have
to have a kindle account and register it on Amazon. Then you can purchase
books and add them to your kindle yourself. Purchasing books has to be done
on the pc though unless you have sight.

Thanks Mark that is really helpful. When you say you can?t order from the
Kindle, can you download books onto the Kindle if you order books online or
do you need to get someone to order all your books for you? Also, you
mention the 3G version. Is this an older version and, is there any better
version to get to enable you to order books from the Kindle?
