[access-uk] Re: JAWS ILM - was: hard drives: fat32 or NTFS

Just to try and explain a little further on what Andrew has
quite correctly said.

This is EXTREMELY simplistic, but hopefully will help.

When software like this looks at a machine it can see
various things. (So if you have Belarc Advisor
www.belarc.com you will see much of the following)

For example,

The CPU, or processor, has a serial Number.

The disk drive has a serial number.

The Motherboard has a serial number.

So what is to say that you might not move software on a disk
drive to another machine, by cloning the disk drive? Ah!
Different CPU and Motherboard.

Even CPU's and Motherboards however can be cloned and appear
to have the same serial numbers.

So the machine checking process can go deeper.

However, provided the machine is genuinely the same, then
usually the checking process recognises this.

But nothing is ever perfect, and sometimes the same machine,
for one reason or another, will generate a different
"fingerprint", if that's the right analogy.

George.

Hi,

Ok as I said there is no token. Think of a key as a
machine, so when you factory restore your machine, blowing
away all your settings, the hardware is the same, thus
reinstall of JFW won't loose a key. (Well that's the theory
anyway).

Andrew.

Hi there Andrew.

If someone needs to do a Factory Restore, how do they ensure
that they don't lose one of their five keys?

Best wishes.
