If it is too expensive, then who is it too expensive for? What I mean is a
Samsung NC10 is too expensive for me but I don't think they have got their
price policy wrong, I think that I haven't got enough money - simple as
that.

I completely agree with you that some of the kit out their needs a lot of
thought before buying as sometimes I think I must be emitting a ton of radio
waves by carrying around all the electronic gadgets I have decided are
essential.

Just because some people have bought it, is not an indication of it not
being too expensive! Just about all commercial products have competitors, so
if people can't afford the flashiest cars, there are still cars they can
afford that do the job, that goes for most commodities, however, in the case
of the KNFB reader, there is no real competition, it is a monopoly, and as
such, pretty much has it's customers over a barrel.

Benefits such as DLA are not meant for use in acquiring such technology, it
is provided to meet different needs altogether.

I guess it could be argued how much do those not in employment actually need
such software, as appose to wanting it because it would be nice to have? I
guess most can afford a flat bed scanner and OCR software such as
FineReader, so, how essential is OCR software on our phones, if we don't
really need it when out and about.

Those that are in employment are possibly in a better position to afford it
either from their own means, or through access to work.

Just trying to offer a balanced view here.

Personally I can afford it, but think it is heavily over priced; I would
like it, but don't actually need it. If it were priced where I think it
would be value for money, round about £399, then I would go for it; I feel
there are many in a similar position that might do the same, the company
needs to decide if it wants our custom, and if in the long term it would
make more from having more customers from selling at a more generally
affordable price.

I believe individually we need to be discerning about all this technology
stuff, sometimes there can be a desire to have every little thing just
because it's out there, I find there's just lots of stuff I don't need, I
might be interested in it, and curious to play with it, but in the end the
question for me is, once the novelty has worn off, will I actually use it,
does it enhance the quality of my life, or is it just another toy? -

Andy
