[access-uk] Firewall

Hi
For a long time I've relied upon my router's firewall to keep things right for
all my PCs. Now I've a laptop and may take it about, I'm wondering which
firewall to use. Will the Windows XP firewall be enough or should I look for
another software firewall. I wondered about the AVG one as I use their Virus
checker. I'm not sure if it's free however. Has anyone any suggestions for free
and accessible ones?
