That is very interesting thank you Barry. Now if I go on to my home page on fb will I then be able to turn on tht e-mail alert box that you are talking about. How do I do that? In other words where on the page will I look for that?

Hi Eleanor

If you work through the headings until you get to a friend who has posted a
message, you arrow down and will find a button labelled *like*. This will
let the friend know that you like their message without you bothering to
send them a message, but it also keeps you informed of any other messages
that are sent in reply to that message if you have your FB account set to
send email alerts or text message alerts for messages. In addition, as Ian
has pointed out, it allows you to post a comment to the message on the full
FB site, although you don't have to do this step with the mobile site.

Cheers

Barry

Sorry Barry and Ian, I am so stupid, what do you mean by *like*? Is this a
code you are putting in?

Hi Ian and Eleanor

It is actually my own friends that I have had problems commenting on.
Ian's
suggestion of clicking on *Like* does work. In fact, I can *like* then
*unlike* and the comment box stays. Still, I'd prefer to just hit the
comment link to comment like I can on the mobile site. Pro's and con's
for
each.

Cheers

Barry

We are saying when we click on the comment link it does not work. What is
the point in people writing up on Facebook and having Comment links and
people not able to comment? Surely they are writing up on a public
noticeboard so to speak. If they only want their friends comnenting why
not
just confine their Facebook to those people and exclude Jo public.

If you look carefully at the facebook page section where the statuses are, You will see a "like" link. It will always pay dividends to examine a page
on any site you visit.

If you "like" it first, you should then be able to comment.

Hi Ian and all

I'm having a play with the main site again. Got to agree that
navigating
the messages is easier as each person is at a separate heading.
However,
I
can't comment on a message unless it's already been commented on. What
am
I
doing wrong?

Cheers

Barry

I use it in preference to the mobile site as I find it much easier to
get
around.

This is the thing tho Eleanor.

I find Facebook such a darn faff that I only ever use the mobile site
m.facebook.com - it's a cut down version of the site and isn't full of
the lag and confusion of the main site.

Honestly, I really wouldn't bother with it unless you've got some
usable
site and enjoy apps and photos.

Perhaps we should start by asking you what you want to get out of
Facebook. If it's just finding out what your pals are up to, then
there's no need to use facebook.com itself.

I wonder how many people here actually use the main Facebook site. It's
so full of dynamic stuff that doesn't cause page refreshes, that it
makes jaws incredibly heavy, sluggish and unresponsive.

Subject: [access-uk] Face Book Questions

1. Is there anyone using Face Book who would be prepared on answer my
questions on or off list?
2. While I can navagate a page on Facebook, this does not give me a
mental map of the page and possible other standard pages on Facebook.
Is this something someone can help with or is it just a matter of me
working it out for myself?
3. I was given a link to someone's page on Facebook and clicking on the
link, took me there. I tabbed round and got an idea what was on the
page. There were certain things said and then below that there was a
link to Comment. I clicked on the link but nothing seemed to happen.
I
then began tabbing around the page again to see what was going on and I realized the screen had changed and I think I was being asked to Login,
finding the edit boxes for this, or actually it was my password, I had
to put it, I was then put back in the origional page of Facebook. then
I looked for the subject being spoken of and the Comment link below it
but now the Comment link had disappeared. Obviously now that I had got
in with my password, things had changed but this was where I was
getting
unstuck.
4. Say someone can tell me what to do to comment, how then do I go
about
seeing the reply to what I said on the person's page. the reply might
come from the person or anyone else that the person has allowed to
write
on their page.

I'mhappy for responses off list.

Eleanor
