science, policy and practice to find ‘nature based solutions’ for conservation
and sustainable development issues in the MENA-region (Jordan, 22-26 April),
Asia (India 9-13 October), Europe (Spain, 14-19 Oct), Latin America (Brazil,
22-25 October) and N. America, together with ACES (in Washington, USA, 3-7

ESP MENA Conference (Middle East & N. Africa) 22-26 April 2018 in Jordan
The first ESP conference in the MENA region will be held in Jordan 22-26 April
2018, organised in collaboration with GIZ and hosted by the Jordanian Min. of
Environment. The conference theme will be “Enhancing ecosystem services through
ecological restoration for nature and people”. Rapid land degradation,
unsustainable land use and weak land use planning combined with increasing
drought and severe climate change vulnerability are crucial issues that most
MENA countries have in common. Understanding that ecosystem services are not
lost forever once an area and/or landscape element are degraded heavily, but
that restoration measures and rehabilitation programmes can also successfully
revive ecosystem services is crucial. For further information, registration and
