....don’t discount MS Teams.......there is a free version that can now be run
on any platform I think. Certainly at least two members of our group of 8 using
it the other day were on iPads

Using Pow wow now is quite expensive, 5.8p+VAT per minute charge from them
and a charge from your telephone service provider
If that service provider is BT, their charge is 10.19p or 12p per
minute (again plus VAT) or 30p if calling from a mobile
So the cost is 12.9p per minute - or more - for each user (unless the
host is paying, through Simon’s pin setup) and that adds up: £8 per hour,
roughly
Skype works well and is free - I tried it as a guest.
It’s free - for guest and host.
The confcall ‘owner’ calls multiple users with a distribution list (I
think) and if you answer the call you’re in. I don’t know if you can join
late having missed the invitation.
Zoom is proper conferencing, designed for it from the start, but unless
someone pays you are limited to 40 mins (might be a good discipline)
See this Skype vs Zoom comparison
https://www.dgicommunications.com/zoom-vs-skype/
WhatApp is limited to 4 people - great for families, not for WVIC
Whichever service you go for, it takes discipline to make it work.

But I do confess that I have my concerns about trying to keep orderly
proceedings . Do we each start at 7.30 with a glass of wine and see what is
left on the bottle for an 8.00pm start ?
But lets have a test run. I think is is vital that the meeting is prepared
well in advance with a summary of each share and the treasurers report so we
all know before what we have to spend.
We need maybe 5 or 6 volunteers for a test run .

One daughter says we should download the free app “house party” onto our

I have a pin number for Pow wow now and have just used it for a 10 person
call – you need quite a lot of discipline to make sure that you do not all
talk at once.
It can be used by both mobile and landline users – it is certainly simple
for the more technically challenged amongst us…

My board uses Pow wow now
You dial into 08444 737373 and put your mutual code in to talk to everyone
dialling in.

Yes, it does. It is free and a lot of people our age know how to use it!
Let's include it in our trial. We could try Whatsapp, and skype. Any other
suggestions? I think as long as it's free, it's an option.

Disadvantage of teams is you need a MS licence if it is to work on your

I will be using Microsoft Teams this Thursday for an 8 person meeting,
so will let you know if that works. At the moment so many people are

Many thanks, Peter. This should make up for the Grand National being
cancelled - if it is.
I suggest we also start to think about next month’s meeting which
hardly counts as “essential travel”. I imagine that a live meeting on
Skype or similar would be beyond us both technically and managerially.
The alternative might be to use some electronic voting system if we
can agree an agenda of choices beforehand. Perhaps the simplest thing
would be to hold everything but have a choice of things to do with the
money we have to play with? Those with proposals could circulate
their case on email in advance and we vote either altogether or by a
certain deadline.
This is just to start the discussion - I’m sure that many of us will
have a view, especially the IT literati….
Best wishes
