Walnut's Walk
Walnut was excited. Today he would be going for a walk with his mom around
Westbrook.
He was going to go to the library and the park.
"Walnut are you ready to go." Asked his mom.
"I sure am Mom." said Walnut.
Just that day he learned how to be a safe pedestrian at school.
Walnut and his Mom set out for the library. Before long they came to a
crosswalk. Walnut looked around. There wasn't a cross light. He looked both
ways and when he was sure it was safe he crossed the street.
On their walk there were a lot of cars, trucks, and bicyclists. Walnut
stayed on the sidewalk. Soon they came to an intersection.
This intersection had a crosswalk, a funny button that beeped, and a
signal light.
"Mommy, I learned about this in school! I push the button,wait, and then
cross the street when it tells me to but first I still need to look both
ways before I cross the street."
Walnut pushed the button, waited, and only when it was safe to do so,
crossed the street.
Walnut payed attention to everything he learned in school on his walk. He
couldn't wait to teach his friends how to be a safe pedestrian.
