As a WSMAC member, I have a couple Questions which, in the current delicate
environment, May not have answers right now.
1. Driving West on WCD, at the Stroudwater and WCD intersection,
there is No Crosswalk for WCD on the East side of the Intersection of WCD.
Every other side of the Intersection has a Crosswalk.
The next Intersection, at Spring Street and WCD, is exactly the same as
Stroudwater and WCD.
Why is that?
2. At the Stroudwater and WCD Intersection, in the Westbound lanes, there
are two Orange colored Triangles or Circles drawn on the pavement. One is
actually a bit more on the Right Lane of Stroudwater Street towards Main.
Those must be where evidence was collected, documented last night.
3. As a Westbrook resident since late 1961, I would hope and expect to
have Westbrook officials explain to its citizens in language all of us can
understand, exactly What happened Tuesday evening, Why and How so everyone
can analyze the Facts. We can not truthfully say in view of the above, " So
that this never happens again..." Unfortunately this will happen again.
Monday past, I was driving down Brighton Avenue around 7:10 pm ,
to attend the weekly Portland Camera Club meeting at the Woodfords Club. As
I came to the Lights for Sagamore Village and the Rand Road, I spotted a
woman dressed in a Middle Eastern custom, pushing a small shopping cart or
carriage, in the Crosswalk from the Metro Bus Kiosk on the Pine Tree
Shopping Center side of Brighton Avenue, towards the Sagamore Village
side. I was going slow as the Lights were changing. I noticed there was the
Orange Hand showing on the pedestrian sign instead of the White symbol of a
pedestrian. The woman stopped on the sidewalk on the Sagamore side.
Then, 3 Boys, not white, and maybe ages 8 to 13, appeared out of the
shadows of the Metro Bus Kiosk on the Pine Tree Shopping Center side,
hesitating on crossing or not. Traffic was STOPPED ON BOTH LANES so I
Flashed my lights and activated the hazard flashers. All 3 Boys ran across
to the Sagamore side. That had all the ingredients for a real mess. Add
some Rain, Fog....
