" Sign just like the one facing Central Street. It is mounted on the same
Post - The signs are mounted back to back - so people walking towards WCD
and Central Street from CVS, etc., will see it. BUT, that is the Only sign
between The Mechanic Street and Church Street Crosswalks. Mechanic Street
has 4 Way Traffic Signals, while The Church Street Crosswalk has A Manual
Pushbutton on both sides of WCD that activates dual Flashing Amber Lights
to Stop Traffic in both East and West bound Lanes.
For Ethan, I have two Questions or for Eric.
1. When a Pedestrian pushes the Button, at the Mechanic Street Crosswalk,
from either side of WCD to stop Traffic in order to cross safely, how many
seconds or minutes elapse before traffic Stops in both directions and the
Walk symbol shows ? I have watched people push the button, wait, then
frustrated, push the button several times again.
2. Are all of the Traffic Signals for East and West Traffic on WCD, set for
the same timing sequence going from Green > Yellow > Red ?
The Signals at Stroudwater for WCD traffic seen to change from
Yellow to Red very quick.

A sign on the near side of the photo would be good for folks coming down
Central St, but folks who are walking down William Clark Dr. and then turn
right or left to cross towards CVS would not see the sign mounted on the
stop sign post. However, you could argue that you could keep the current
sign and add a supplemental sign on the near side as Dennis suggests.
Another issue here is this is no sign for people traveling in the opposite
direction, which I see quite frequently. I.E. someone who leaves
Hub/Martini Lane/Family Dollar/CVS towards Central St. The Cadillac fix
here would be to place a fence along the back of the sidewalk between the
parking lot and William Clark Dr, which would destroy the shortcut. Maybe
a future grant application idea ;-)

Thursday Morning, August 24, 2017, 11 AM. I photographed the new " Use
Crosswalk " Sign from the sidewalk at the end of Central Street, facing the
Eastbound Lanes of WCD. The Sign Post has 2 of the new " Use Crosswalk "
Signs mounted back to back on 1 Post. The Sign on the other side of the
post is the one I photographed before Wednesday's meeting.
In my non engineer mind, the Sign facing Central Street should be attached
on the STOP Sign seen in the picture, so Pedestrians walking down Central
Street towards the Intersection with William Clarke Drive will immediately
notice it. The Words " Use Crosswalk " Should also be printed in
The Language used by the Immigrant Families at The West Pointe Apartments
neighborhood. This would require some type of meeting / S arranged by the
WPD and City Officials to obtain the most spoken and used foreign Languages
before having proper Signs made, printed, and installed on both sides of
WCD at Central Street. Then, we would have something AND the City would be
Legally protected.
