Spent about 90 minutes in Lions Den Gorge Park today. There literally where
hundreds of yellow rumped warblers. A few black and white and palm warblers
were also noted. But the trees were full of yellow rumped.

Best part of this beautiful spring day here was seeing about 20+ Pelicans
soaring over Sister Bay and then coming home to find a fine kettle of Broad
Wing Hawks drifting along over our house outside of Gills Rock. I counted at
least 40.

Subject: [wisb] La Crosse: Red-necked Grebe and 15 Willets on Fishermen's Rd
The Red-necked Grebe continues as of 7:30am today (1 May) at the end of
Fishermen's Rd on French Island in La Crosse. Thanks to Jennifer Scholze
for the initial report on the 27th, and to Elista Fisher for confirming it
was still present yesterday! I guess it's hanging around while waiting for
the ice to break up farther north. It was hugging the shoreline again - if
you can't see it from the very end of the road, walk back southeast on the
dirt path and keep a close eye on the water.
There were also 15 Willets on Airport Beach (also on Fishermen's Rd) at
6:30am. Unfortunately, I did not see them on my way out at 7:45am. When I
first was watching them, they were regularly flushing as Bald Eagles flew
overhead, but would return immediately and did not mind cars or me on my
bike. Maybe they're still in the area somewhere.
Other FOYs included Forster's Terns, Clay-colored Sparrows, Eastern
Kingbirds, and Least Flycatchers.

Subject: [wisb] Milwaukee lakefront
It is hopping at the lakefront today. The highlights I have had so far are
two Orchard Orioles, an early dickcissel, a blue winged warbler, and a
yellow-breasted chat, the best look I've ever had of one. The latter two
were seen at warnimont Park where it meets Sheridan by the group of
coniferous trees right by the drive. The chat hunkered down in the Brushy
area on the North side behind the fence after I got a great view of it
higher up.

Subject: [wisb] Lark sparrow Milwaukee
About 15 minutes after I found the chat, maybe 30, who knows in the middle
of a birding frenzy, I found a lark Sparrow walking in the short grass that
used to be the shooting range at warnimont. I think that folks would have a
better shot at relocating that bird and the chat, although maybe the chat,
if it hangs around will become visible closer toward us when it needs to
feed more vigorously.
For the Lark Sparrow, just park in the golf course parking lot and check
that grassy area that used to be the shooting range and then the clump of
trees and bramble that is right between the parking lot and the shooting
range grass. I saw it and both the grass and up in a tree.

hopefully tomorrow will bring in more goodies!

We spent a pleasant morning strolling through Pheasant Branch. Highlights
were lots of Nashville and Tennessee Warblers (how did Tennessee get two
warblers?), a couple of Northern Waterthrushes, an Ovenbird, a Great Horned
Owl adult with owlet, and a bright male Northern Parula.
Just now, a brilliant male Baltimore Oriole landed on the orange in our
front yard and started eating. (Must not have been any snacks on his
flight.) It looks like we have a pair of American Kestrels nesting in our
box. They've been hanging around pretty consistently and they're certainly
going through all the right motions. Haven't stuck the phone in yet to check
for eggs.

I drove over to Goeden Park, east of West Bend this afternoon in hopes of
seeing a larger variety of warblers than I have spotted soÃÂ far.ÃÂ It was
primarily a large variety of Yellow Rumps with a good collection of Palm
Warblers in between. That seems to be the popular warblers around here.ÃÂ ÃÂ
I did spot a Connecticut Warbler hiding in the bushes and a Solitary Sandpiper
along the Milwaukee River shoreline.ÃÂ I do believe that Connecticut is first
for me.

Saturday in just a few minutes of looking around at Hartman's Creek SP had a
good movement of yellow rumps and sapsuckers and a single palm
warbler.Yesterday had a brown thrasher and a Caspian tern on the butterfly
trail at High Cliff as well as calling wood and chorus frogs and american
toads.Today at Van Patton road there were yellow headed blackbirds and horned
grebes as well as Bonaparte's gulls in some of the nearby flooded fields. Good
numbers of shorebirds as well but didn't have my scope with me so I can't be
sure of anything but yellowlegs.

Looks like my first post came through as gibberish. Letââ¬â¢s try again:
There is a WORM-EATING WARBLER at the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary in Green
Bay. It was originally eBirded this afternoon by Tonissa Verhaagh near the wolf
pen so after work early this evening Adam Sinkula and I tried to relocate it.
Adam spotted it to the southeast along the first wood-chip trail to the left
after the metal gate along the paved trail/road. It worked itââ¬â¢s way
south (back toward the paved trail/road), foraging in clusters of dead oak
leaves. Adam got some pics and hopefully heââ¬â¢ll post one later. What a
way to ring in May!!

Warnimont Park was the place to be today! There were so many birds, it was
almost impossible to focus on just one. They were everywhere! I was there
for 5.5 hours and found 15 warbler species, including Cerulean and
Blue-winged. I added 15 FOY's, including Lark Sparrow (which was still
present when I left) I had a total of 70 species, just at Warnimont Park!
